  • Room schedules are available from your bCal calendar.
    • To make a reservation, create a new entry in calendar, click [More options] to bring up page to edit; Add title, time, and other pertinent information, then to the right side of the screen, select [Rooms], and in [Search for room or resource] box, enter keywords such as Cory or Soda to view available rooms in these buildings to add it as resource to reserve it on the calendar, once saved, wait for confirmation email to know that the reservation is successful.
    • To view calendar, in Add calendar box on your calendar page, Browse resources, scroll on the list to locate the room entry from Cory or Soda, add or preview to add or view the calendar
    • To add to your view, in [Other calendars] on the left pane, click (+) to Browse resources, then in the list search for Soda or Cory, then from the dropdown to select room to add.

  • Screen
    • Manual Screen:- Pull down the screen if there is a string attached to it, otherwise:
    • Electrical Control:- Look for the control buttons on the wall around to bring the screen down.
  • Projector
    • Look for the Pixie controller nearby on the wall, press ON button to turn on projector, please wait a couple of minutes before it turns on fully.
  • Making the connections
    • VGA and HDMI cables are available, and if your laptop such as Macbook has lightning or USB-C connectors, you will need to use the dongles attached to the existing cables to connect to either the VGA or HDMI cables.
    • Please be reminded that it may take up to a minute for the signal to be detected successfully before it can be displayed to the screen
    • – Or – use the Pixie controller to manually toggle the connection
  • Done presenting. Please…
    • Press OFF button the pixie controller to turn projector off.
    • Return cables neatly to original location

Instructions

It is strongly recommended that you familiarize yourself with the room equipment and controls before your presentation. 

Pixie controller

Pixie

Press the “ON” button on the AV controller mounted on the wall in the room to turn on the projector, the indicator on the projector should turn to green. Wait a few seconds, a blue screen will first appear. If your image doesn’t come up afterwards, press the “COMP” button to change source on the projector. Toggling the “COMP” button to switch to laptop.
Laptop connections: To display a laptop, connect to the VGA or HDMI cable in the room, common dongles available such as HDMI/VGA to USB-C/display port are attached to the cables.  Toggle the “COMP” button on the AV controller if the projector did not pick up the signal automatically.
Done Please turn projector off and put cables back nicely before leaving. Thank you.

Troubleshooting

  • In Soda Hall, projector does not seem to have power, please check that the wall switch next to the door is in the “on” position.
  • Image does not show up after changing source on projector: try to toggle screen option on laptop to either mirror image or display extended.
  • Image size does not show up correctly: try changing the resolution display on your laptop to match that of the projector.
  • In PowerPoint, on Mac, can use Command F1 to switch between screens

Cory 144MB -Studio for video capturing


The capture studio offers users a place to capture video for online learning. Funded through MASIC, it has been used primarily for online course capture in support of MASIC and EdX initiative, as well as for holding office hours for MASIC students; other projects include capturing of homework solutions writeup and conference talk videos have also found usage in this space.


Equipment

The room is equipped with a Wacom tablet, connected to either the in-room PC or iMac, both are powered with i7 processors.

Camtasia software installed on the PC or the Mac is available for use in capturing. Presentation can be brought in via a USB stick to copy to the computer or put it on a share drive that is available on the network to load up on the computer.

Instructions – Follow the stars

Reserved: 6 : Turn on “ON AIR” sign
Switch is located on the wall by the light switches near entrance door, turn it on to let others know to keep from accidental walk-ins disruptions during recording
Reserved: 2 : Log visit
  1. Sign in log book found on table: date, time, user name, phone/email, platform, issues.  Emergency contactinformation can be found on the front cover of the log book
    1. Before starting, take notes of how things are setup, need to return to zero state before leaving
    2. Load presentation slides as needed, via USB into PC or Mac in studio, or upload to\\project.eecs.berkeley.edu\mediastore
Reserved: 3 : Select from here / PC or \ MAC
Use the CubiQ on the table between the computers to choose system to capture with, 1 = PC, 2 = Mac

Turn on studio lights (rocker button beneath left hand side of table where the tablet is). Make adjustment to make yourself comfortable as needed:
  1. Adjust seating, microphone, and table heights
  2. Turn on viewing monitor underneath the camera if not on already. The monitor is by default, showing the camera. Seenotes below to change to tablet view.

  1. Click Record button in Camtasia to start new capture
  2. PC – F9 to start,  F10 to stop
  3. Mac – Shift-command-2 to start, Option-Command-2 to stop/pause recording
  • Verify microphone level and camera image on computer via Camtasia that microphone is set to use the external microphones “shure digital”
  • Navigate to use your favorite program such as Microsoft PowerPoint or Adobe Photoshop to proceed.
Reserved: 6 : Do a 1 min. test recording to verify all is satisfied. Keep recordings to 15 min modules each.
It is important to do a short 1 min. test recording to make sure sound level and capture are good before starting the real recording, otherwise, time will be wasted resulting in having to redo the whole session
  • Save project onto your USB stick or to share drive on mediastore with a descriptive name like “EE240-2013-01-29”, extension defaults to .camproj on PC or .cmproj on Mac
  • Keep recordings to 15 min modules each, and start a new recording for the real session
star7 : When finished recording, return settings to zero state, and check to collect your personal belongings before exiting. Turn off the “ON AIR” sign.

Special Notes/Troubleshooting

 

  • PowerPoint annotation will not be saved on the Mac.
  • When importing Camtasia files from Mac to PC, zip up the whole project directory after captured on the PC, and copied to the Mac and extract.
